How Millionaires Set Goals: This Advice Helped Us 4x Our Income
Discover the strategies and tools successful families use to align their goals and thrive together. The advice I will share made us an additional $1.3M in 2024.
This is probably the most powerful post you will read this year… The advice I will share helped us 4x our income.
You are probably thinking, “Oh, another goal-setting lame post.” No… Trust me – I am about to reveal the most powerful tool to get you to your financial freedom goal that you will ever learn.
Yes, we all already know… Setting goals is one of the most powerful tools for success. Studies show that people who set clear goals are 42% more likely to achieve them. But goal-setting isn’t just about writing a wish list and crossing your fingers—it’s about creating focus, alignment, and accountability.
For many families, the challenge isn’t dreaming big—it’s rowing in the same direction. And, probably like you, we were not always rowing in the same direction. But this is so damn important because when everyone in your family or team is focused on different priorities, it’s like paddling a boat in circles.
That is until, at one of my events (this is why these events are so damn important!), we heard the single most important advice I have ever received. Because of this advice, we’ve implemented a system that keeps us aligned, motivated, and thriving: monthly family office meetings.
In this article, I’ll explain why these meetings are critical to reaching our family goals, how we structure them, and the key principles guiding our family. I’ll also break down the four words we’ve chosen to define 2025 and explain why picking a “guiding word” can help you stay focused on what truly matters.
Why Family Alignment is Critical
Think about the last time you set a goal. It could be a personal goal like starting a business, getting in shape, or saving more money. Imagine trying to achieve that goal while your family or team worked against it—intentionally or unintentionally.
This misalignment happens more often than we think. For example, you might prioritize building your business while your partner is focused on family time. Or you could cut back on expenses while your kids (or even employees) push for upgrades and luxuries. Without communication and alignment, even the best goals can feel impossible.
That’s where our family office meetings come in. These meetings help us:
Check-in regularly: Monthly meetings ensure we’re all on the same page.
Stay aligned: We discuss short- and long-term goals so everyone knows where we’re headed.
Support each other: We can help one another succeed by sharing our goals.
Takeaway: Family alignment isn’t just about avoiding conflict—it’s about creating synergy. When everyone rows in the same direction, you move faster and farther.

How We Structure Our Family Office Meetings
We meet as a family every month for a focused, intentional meeting. Here’s how it works:
Start with Gratitude: We begin by sharing what we’re grateful for. It sets a positive tone and reminds us of our blessings.
Review Goals: We review each goal we set at the beginning of the year and how we are tracking towards them for us individually and our family goals.
Discuss Challenges: We discuss what’s working, what’s not, and where we need support. This is a no-judgment zone.
Plan for the Month Ahead: Together, we will map out key milestones, events, and priorities for the coming month so that we can continue to achieve our goals.
End with Encouragement: We wrap up by reaffirming our commitment to each other’s success.
At the end of each year, we also hold a vision meeting to map out our long-term goals and strategy for the year ahead. This is where we identify our “guiding words” for the year—simple, powerful themes that keep us focused when life gets chaotic.
Takeaway: Regular check-ins ensure you’re not just setting goals but actively working toward them as a family.
Our Four Words for 2025
Every year, our family picks words that serve as our North Star. These words guide our decisions, keep us grounded, and remind us of our bigger picture. For 2025, we’ve chosen four words:
1. Health
This is our foundation. Without physical, mental, and emotional health, nothing else matters. For us, this means prioritizing exercise, eating well, and making space for mental clarity.
Practically, this includes weekly family hikes, meal planning, and therapy sessions as needed. We believe in proactive health—not waiting until there’s a problem to address it.
Takeaway: Health isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity. Make it your top priority, and everything else will follow.
2. Family
Family has always been our cornerstone, but in 2025, we’re doubling down on mindfulness and presence. This means setting aside devices during meals, planning intentional family time, and ensuring every household member feels valued and supported.
As entrepreneurs, it’s easy to get caught up in work. But we’ve learned that being present with our kids and each other isn’t just fulfilling—it strengthens our ability to show up in other areas of life.
Takeaway: Your family is your foundation. Prioritize them, and everything else will feel more balanced.
3. No Expectations
This is my personal word for 2025. For years, I’ve held myself and those around me to extremely high standards. While that’s fueled my success, it’s also led to frustration and disappointment.
This year, I’m letting go of rigid expectations. That doesn’t mean compromising my values—embracing grace and focusing on progress over perfection.
For example, if a project doesn’t hit every milestone but still moves the needle, that’s a win. And if someone I care about falls short, I choose understanding over frustration.
Takeaway: Letting go of unrealistic expectations creates space for growth, connection, and peace.
4. Peace
This is our family’s guiding word for 2025. Peace isn’t just about quiet—it’s about balance, boundaries, and intentionality. It’s about saying no to the things that don’t serve us and yes to the things that bring joy.
For us, peace means:
Setting boundaries with people who drain our energy.
Simplifying our schedules to avoid burnout.
Prioritizing moments of joy and connection over material success.
Takeaway: Peace is a choice. Create it by being intentional about your time, energy, and relationships.

The Power of Guiding Words
Why do we pick guiding words? Because life is chaotic, and it’s easy to lose focus. When challenges arise (and they always do), these words anchor us. They remind us of what truly matters and help us make decisions that align with our values.
For example, when work becomes overwhelming, I remember that my word is peace. Instead of saying yes to one more meeting, I block off time to recharge. When I feel frustrated, I remind myself to release expectations and focus on progress.
Takeaway: Guiding words provide clarity and focus when life feels overwhelming.
How to Apply This to Your Own Life
You don’t have to be an entrepreneur or a parent to benefit from goal-setting and guiding words. Here’s how you can get started:
Hold a Personal or Family Meeting: Set aside time to reflect on your goals, challenges, and priorities.
Pick Your Guiding Words: Choose 1-3 words that resonate with your values and vision for the year ahead.
Review Regularly: Check in monthly (or even weekly) to ensure you’re staying aligned and making progress.
Celebrate Wins: Acknowledge milestones, no matter how small. Progress deserves recognition.
Takeaway: Goal-setting is more than a task—it’s a practice that transforms your mindset, relationships, and results.
Wrapping It Up: What’s Your Word for 2025?
Setting goals isn’t just about achieving more—it’s about living intentionally. It’s about aligning your actions with your values and building a meaningful and fulfilling life.
This year, my family and I focus on health, family, no expectations, and peace. These words aren’t just reminders—they’re commitments to the life we want to build together.
